THE MISSION

Mission

Our mission is to positively impact the economy of Central Oregon by introducing a new industry sector, specifically the Film and Television Entertainment industry.

It is noteworthy that Central Oregon is home to industry professionals who are employed in other regions, resulting in tax contributions that benefit those states. In line with our objectives, we aim to provide local employment opportunities not only for these professionals but also for others in the region.

Production Companies are moving out of California:

The exodus of Hollywood Film and Television productions from California to other states can be primarily attributed to the economic factors and cost disparities. Productions are increasingly opting to relocate due to California’s high cost of living, burdensome taxes, and inflated production expenses. Other states offer a more favorable business environment, lower living costs, and guaranteed tax credits or rebates, making them attractive alternatives. The uncertainty surrounding California’s incentives program and its unpredictable nature further contributes to the shift.

Central Oregon’s Film Potential:

Central Oregon stands to gain substantial benefits from developing a thriving film industry due to its unique natural landscapes, supportive community, and economic opportunities. The picturesque locations in Central Oregon offer diverse backdrops that attract filmmakers seeking visually stunning settings for their productions. By leveraging these resources, Central Oregon can establish itself as a desirable filming destination, creating employment opportunities, boosting tourism, and fostering local economic growth. Additionally, the community’s enthusiasm for the arts and its willingness to collaborate can contribute to a vibrant and supportive film industry ecosystem in Central Oregon.

Central Oregon Film Office:

Presently, Hollywood producers and directors often associate Oregon solely with “Portland”. However, Oregon boasts a plethora of untapped opportunities beyond this narrow perception. In reality, the state encapsulates the essence of every other American state and even elements from Canada. Our primary objective is to effectively market this diverse aspect to filmmakers. Adequate funding for the Oregon Film Office and Central Oregon Film Office will play a crucial role in promoting this message through targeted marketing efforts.

Funding for the Central Oregon Film Office is vital for supporting our business plan and the local film growth. Government financial support enables the film office to attract and facilitate film productions in the region, promoting economic development, job creation, and tourism.

Central Oregon Community College:

Developing a film program at Central Oregon Community College (COCC) is essential as it offers numerous benefits, including the development of aspiring filmmakers and the growth of the local film industry. Such a program would provide students with the necessary skills, knowledge, and hand-on experience to excel in the film of filmmaking, fostering a new generation of talented filmmakers within the region. Moreover, the program would stimulate the growth of area vendors, locations, talent, and equipment as collaborations with local businesses and organizations would become more prevalent, creating a robust ecosystem that supports film productions in Central Oregon. By nurturing local talent and strengthening the local industry, a film program at COCC would not only contribute to the cultural enrichment of the community but also attract more productions, generate economic opportunities, and solidify Central Oregon’s reputation as a thriving hub for filmmaking.

Bend Film Festival:

The Bend Film Festival holds immense importance as it serves as a catalyst for attracting celebrities, producers, and directors to the area, making it crucial to provide funding for marketing and promotion. By supporting the festival, Central Oregon can create a platform that showcases its natural beauty, vibrant arts community, and filmmaking potential, captivating the attention of industry professionals. The presence of renowned celebrities, producers, and directors at the festival not only elevates its prestige but also sparks interest in filming projects within the region. The exposure gained from the festival’s marketing efforts increases the visibility of Central Oregon as a desirable filming destination, inspiring industry insiders to explore the area’s diverse locations and leverage local talent and resources.  Ultimately, funding the Bend Film Festival plays a vital role in promoting Central Oregon as a compelling filming location and igniting the interest of key industry players, leading to future film projects and economic growth for the region.
